Earlier this month we reported about a mention of a possible microLED smartwatch in Garmin's Bluetooth connection software. Now Garmin watch face developers noticed the mention of the Fenix 8 MicroLED device in the list of compatible devices:
Garmin's Fenix 8 series is the company's high-end smartwatch series, that adopts the latest technology, so it could make sense for Garmin to adopt the first microLED display in that series.
This is not confirmed yet, but will be interesting to see whether Garmin is close to release such a project. We do know that several microLED developers are ready with wearable displays - and AUO has already announced it has started to mass produce wearable panels. It could be that Garmin is one of AUO's first customers. We do not know Garmin's timeline - the microLED Fenix 8 could be announced soon, or it could be planned towards the end of 2025, or even early 2026.
There are other companies that have demonstrated microLED wearable prototypes - including Tianma, Samsung, PlayNitride, and others.
It is likely that these first microLED wearable displays will be highly expensive. This is one of the main reasons Apple withdrew from its own plans to produce microLED wearable displays.
