A spotlight on Yenrich: a MicroLED Industry Association member

We're happy to interview Yenrich, as part of our series of interviews with MicroLED Industry Association members. Yenrich, spun-off from Epistar and now part of the Ennostar group, develops mini-LED and micro-LED packaging. The company is focused on direct-view displays, both miniLED based and microLED based.

Hello! Can you introduce your company and technology?

Yenrich, a member of Ennostar, focuses on the development of Mini/Micro LED technology and products for fine pitch displays and provides customers with integrated solutions of front-end chips and back-end system applications.

Q: Can you say why you joined the microLED association and what it is you hope to achieve?
1.    Learn the latest Mini/Micro LED technology and information from the MIA and get more correct product roadmap in this field
2.    Understand the needs of Micro LED for AR/VR and automotive applications and technology

Kopin receives first microLED microdisplay samples, reach over 2.8 million nits

US-based Microdisplay developer Kopin announced that it has reached an important milestone in its 2Kx2K high brightness microLED microdisplay development project. The company received the first verification samples, that utilize the company's proprietary backplane and drive technology. These displays achieved brightness levels of over 2.8 million nits. 

Kopin says that it expects to increase the brightness level to 3.2-3.5 million nits by the time these displays reach production. The company did not yet reveal any actual production plans or roadmap.

SID Displayweek 2023 - MicroLED summary

The display industry's top conference, SID DisplayWeek 2023 took place at the end of May in Los Angeles. The event was interesting, and fruitful - and it was exciting to be able to travel to display trade shows again after several years. We also hosted the first annual MicroLED Association meeting, which we believe was a great event.

The MicroLED Association reports over 2000 downloads for its white papers

The MicroLED Association published its first white paper (LED Cost Analysis for MicroLED Smartwatch Displays) in January 2023, and has published two more white papers since.

The association is happy to announce that there have been over 2,200 downloads for its three whitepapers. MicroLEDs are considered to be the next generation display technology, and display professionals are looking for information and analysis regarding the latest microLED developments and technologies.

IQE launches 200 mm RGB epitaxial microLED wafer products

Semiconductor wafer product supplier IQE launched a new portfolio of 200mm (8”) Red, Green and Blue epitaxial wafer products for microLED display qualification. The wafer epitaxy is based on GaN and GaAs materials.

IQE says that it plans to scale up its technology to 300 mm (12-inch) wafers, to enable more cost-effective solutions for microLED developers.

PlayNitride showcases its latest microLED displays at Display Week 2023

Taiwan-based MicroLED developer PlayNitride (a MicroLED Industry Association member) has demonstrated its latest microLED displays at Display Week 2023.

First up we have the company's tiled large-area microLED displays, called PixeLED Matrix. The company showed a 166" vertical installation, that is made from 324 modules. The total resolution is 1440x4860 (30 PPI, or a pixel pitch of 0.833 mm). This was a very nice looking demonstration.

LG launches microLED MAGNIT displays for virtual production

LG Electronics launched a new version of its microLED MAGNIT displays, specifically for virtaul production (model LBAF). The new model is designed to help directors to create immersive visual experiences, ideal for film and media production.

The new MAGNIT TVs feature LG's chip-on-board (COB) LED technology and a 1.5mm pixel pitch. LG's previous microLED displays were available in four four pixel pitch options - 0.68, 0.78, 0.94 and 1.25 mm.

LG Display demonstrates its stretchable 12" microLED touch display prototype

In 2022 LG Display demonstrated a 12" 100 PPI (pixel pitch 40 um) full-color stretchable MicroLED display. During Display Week 2023, the company demonstrated this display again, in a demo that showed a working touch version of this display covering an automotive-style button, which was quite impressive.

The display can stretch up to 20% (to create a 14" display), and LG says that this display can be commercialized soon, as it is highly flexible, durable, and reliable. The new display is produced on a "highly resilient film-type substrate made of special silicon used in contact lenses".
