Samsung prices its 110" 4K MicroLED TV at $155,000

A few days ago Samsung launched a new MicroLED TV, 110-inch 4K prefabricated (not tiled) display. Today Korean publication PulseNews revealed that the TV costs 170 million Won, or about $155,000. Preorders will start before the end of 2020 and the TVs will ship in Q1 2021.

This is a premium at-home TV display, that offers a "breathtaking visual experience" - but still this is an extremely high price that means Samsung will not be able to sell large numbers of its new TV.

Samsung announces its new 110-inch MicroLED TV

Samsung launched a new MicroLED TV, 110-inch 4K panel. This is a per-fabricated TV, Samsung's first such microLED display (all previous ones were tiled and customizable). Samsung says the TVs are now on 'pre-sale' in Korea - but it did not disclose the price. The TVs will ship in Q1 2021.

Samsung says its microLED TV is a premium at-home TV display, that offers a "breathtaking visual experience". The TV features a 100% DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, and Samsung says it offers accurate color reproduction and high brightness. The TV is based on Samsung's all-new Micro AI Processor.

LG officially launches its MAGNIT microLED signage TV

In July 2020 we reported that LG Electronics will soon launch its first microLED TV. Today LG Electronics indeed announced its MAGNIT TV product (name apparently derived from magnificent and nit).

The MAGNIT TVs are made from 160x180 modules. These modules are arranged 8 each in a so-called Cabinet (which offers a 640x360 resolution). The MAGNIT offers a brightness of 600 nits (peak 1,200 nits) and feature LG's AI solution (based on its a7 image processor). LG says it uses a new advanced coating technology that maximizes black levels and increase resistance to dust, humidly and finger marks.

PlayNitride launches new displays at SID 2020

PlayNitride introduced several new display technologies at SID DisplayWeek 2020. First up we have the PixeLED Matrix, which is a tiled microLED display module based display, each produced on its own PCB.

Each PixeLED module is made from 16 pixels (4X4), and can reach pitches of 0.3-0.4 mm. PlayNitride says that this technology can compete with mini LED displays, and says that it achieves a superior contrast and can also be fitted on curved surfaces. PixeLED displays can be used for TV displays, for commercial signage displays and also for automotive lighting. The display can currently achieve a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits.

LG to soon launch its first tiled microLED TV

LG Electronics will soon launch its first microLED TV. These are tiled TVs, made from seamlessly connected 640x360 tiles - these are similar TVs to what is available today from Samsung, Sony and Konka.

These new microLED TVs will likely target the commercial market and also ultra-premium residential installations - and will be LG's flagship TVs. LG will be selling these under its business solutions unit, and it seems as if it will start shipping in August 17, 2020.

ITRI demonstrates a 16.7" tiled microLED display produced directly on PCB backplanes

Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) demonstrated a 16.7" microLED display "module" that was produced by directly mass transferring micro-LED chips onto a PCB backplane.

Konka launches tiled large microLED TV displays - with the 236" 8K one priced at $1.25 million

China-based display maker Konka launched tiled large micro-LED displays, under the APHAEA brand. These are modular displays (similar to Samsung's The Wall and Sony' Crystal LED displays) and Konka demonstrated several possible configurations - including 118" 4K and 236" 8K.

Konka already announced the prices of its new TVs - the 118" 4K one costs around $240,000 while the 236" 8K TV costs $1.25 million. For those that think that this is extremely expensive, Konka says that the cost is around 30% cheaper than a comparable Samsung The Wall TV (Samsung is not disclosing the prices of these tailor made displays).

Samsung now offers the Wall Luxury microLED tiled displays globally

Samsung Electronics announced that it now offers its large-area tiled "consumer" microLED "The wall Luxury" displays globally. The model number of the Wall Luxury is IW008R, and it is based on 0.84 mm microLED pixels offering a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and a maximum brightness of 250 nits.

The Wall Luxury is configurable and customizable to a variety of sizes and ratios from 73-inches in 2K definition, 146-inches in 4K, to 292-inches in 8K. Each Wall "Tile" is 806.4 x 453.6 x 72.2 mm (WxHxD) in size, with a resolution of 960x540.
